Wyldewood Cellars thriving on family roots

BY ADAM SUDERMAN

from the Derby Informer

Dr. John Brewer first took his entrepreneurial interests to the professional wine industry 23 years ago.

Since that year, Brewer and his family’s company, Wyldewood Cellars, has become one of the nation’s biggest elderberry-based businesses in the United States with wines, jellies, jams and juice concentrates.

The company sells its products in retail locations across Kansas, including Wichita, Paxico, Overland Park and its main location in Peck off of I-135.

Seven years ago, the company made its first jump outside of Kansas to open Wyldewood Cellars in St. Joseph, Ill.

We made it to the Top One Hundred!

We want to thank each and every one of you who voted in the FedEx Small Business Grant Contest. We made it to the top 100 (garnering over 1000 votes), and now we're waiting to hear if we make it to the top.

UPDATE: We didn't win, but we appreciate all your votes to get us to the top.

How would we use the FedEx Small Business Grant money to make a significant impact on our business?

Our Shipping Department!!! As you can see from the video, we have a real NEED for a remodel and some equipment to help us in shipping. The economy has cost budget for such things, but we ship cart loads out every day. We sell both wholesale and retail, to thousands of customers. Last year we sold over 300,000 bottles of the Elderberry Concentrate alone. We could be shipping more and faster with better equipment and better shipping containers. We use FedEx Ground daily and Fed Ex Freight for pallets.

Wyldewood Cellars, Inc. Elderberry Wines and Concentrate are now certified by OK Kosher Certification. This includes our Elderberry Wines from Dry to Sweet.
